On June 12th, our group split into two parts: a handful of people went to the "Kinder, Wald und Wiese" (Children, Forest, and Meadow) association, while the rest continued working at the university.
At the association, extra hands were needed to help build benches, mow the lawn, and handle other tasks that needed a hand. As the film crew, our main priority was gathering video footage of the various activities and capturing as many moments as possible that reflected the general bustle on the grounds. We initially gathered in front of the shed where animal feed and other supplies essential to the association's operations are stored. The group was a bit unsure of what to do at first, but after a quick briefing, we split up. One person was chosen to drive the tractor, and beams intended for the bench construction were brought over. Getting the tractor running took a good twenty minutes, and an attachment had to be removed beforehand. The wooden beams had to be sawed and transported to their destination. Afterward, reinforcements from the association arrived, and the horses and goats were fed. In addition, a few People from the BUND ( "Der Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland" - a Bremen state assiciation) came to look at the Area for future rented activities. Ben was busy with them for some time: At the same time, some people began building the benches. They faced a moment of confusion due to having the wrong nails, though the issue was resolved once Ben was back. I then headed to the university to check in with the other part of the group.
At the university, collage- posters were being made in preparation for another project. During a brief status meeting with the rest of the film crew, we decided to use a cloud storage service for the video footage collected so far; this would allow us to document the group's progress and, above all, create a sort of timeline. Additionally, we had two special guests in the seminar that day: sisters Friedl and Steffi. Friedl has Down syndrome and loves painting mandalas. As part of the seminar, she completed a "mini-internship" today, which involved painting mandalas and subsequently laying out a garden bed in a mandala shape. She decided which plants would go where. The session concluded with the singing of a song composed by Fynn—a course participant—that focused on the day's planting activities. Unfortunately, the weather was rather poor, especially towards the end, which made filming difficult at times, yet everyone still had fun. An interview with Oliver Hinkelbein also took place. All in all, it was a day rich in both experiences and results.
